Auckland City Rail Link: Which Stations Suit Visitors?

Auckland City Rail Link Stations

Treat the city stations as different arrival points. Choose the place you want to reach first, then compare the relevant entrance with that address. A station name alone is not a complete walking instruction, and a neighborhood label is not a substitute for your hotel's door.

Read The Platform Destination

An Auckland City Rail Link journey needs a service check as well as a station choice. Auckland Transport’s Maungawhau page, updated 12 September 2026, lists one main entrance on Ruru Street, reachable from Mount Eden Road or New North Road, and four platforms.⁸

AT’s Karanga-a-Hape guidance, updated 12 September 2026, says platform 2 serves East West trains toward Maungawhau and South City trains toward Grafton. Translate Your Old Rail Map

If an older guide uses familiar line names, translate them before following it. AT’s network page, updated 12 September 2026, identifies three current names. The former Eastern and Western lines are now part of East West, South City replaces Southern, and Onehunga West replaces Onehunga.⁹

AT’s airport page, updated 29 July 2026, lists the orange bus every 10 minutes from 4:30am to 12:40am, seven days a week.¹¹ That is the published bus service pattern, not a promise that your full airport journey takes ten minutes. Check the intended departure in the current planner.

For departures from the airport, AT lists stop B at Domestic and stop A at International, with orange signage.¹¹ Keep the terminal and stop letter together in your note. If you are meeting another traveler, agree the meeting location before assuming you will both arrive at the same stop.

Keep Journey Times Separate

AT’s 29 July airport guidance estimates Puhinui-to-terminal travel at 13–17 minutes for Domestic and 18–20 minutes for International.¹¹ Those figures cover the stated segment. They do not describe the journey from a hotel door, a city station or an aircraft seat.

AT’s 23 August 2026 guidance requires the same payment method across transfers, a new tag-on within 30 minutes of the previous tag-off, and completion of the journey within four hours for its stated integrated-fare conditions.¹³ Keep the method consistent across the airport bus and train instead of treating each leg as an unrelated payment decision.

Give Each Rider A Payment

Decide who is using which payment method before entering the station. AT’s contactless guidance, updated 23 August 2026, requires each person to tag on and off with their own card or smart device. One contactless method cannot pay for another passenger.¹³

The same guidance says contactless is charged at the adult AT HOP rate, while eligible concessions require a registered AT HOP card.¹³ A group's payment plan therefore needs a rider-by-rider check. Do not assume that a card suitable for one adult is the right choice for everybody traveling with them.
